Virginia Beach is every bit an American Resort town. Miles of beach and hundreds of hotels and resorts built up all along it. The Guinness Book of Records list Virginia as being the longest pleasure beach in the world.
You can still see the structures from the 50s around, like this pier, but most of the hotels and shops are modern and the thousands of holiday makers seem to love it. This photograph was taken on a cold windy day, so the beach was sparse. I can only imagine how busy and public everything becomes during the summer months when unoccupied sand is valuable real estate
