On the road to the Atacama Desert
The Uyuni Desert in Bolivia, just before reaching the Atacama in Chile, is a highly geothermal area and this activity gives the lakes amazingly bright colours from the algae and bacteria living in there. This particular lake was home to a huge flock of Flamingoes. I thought the sign was funny.
The Uyuni Desert is such a barren otherworldly place that NASA use it as a test place as to what may or may not be occurring on Mars. Thankfully all we needed to get to "Mars" was a Toyota Land-Cruiser and a driver with a bottomless bag of coca leaves.
